The J. R. Black family arrived in the Bahamas in 1988 as AIMers and were the first UPCI missionaries sent to help start and establish works there. They started and assisted works in Nassau, Freeport and South Andos.

They received career missionary appointment in 1989 and continued work in the Bahamas until 1995 when they changed their base to Puerto Rico. Brother Black oversaw the Puerto Rico Bible Institute there. They also oversee the churches in the ABC Islands (Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao) where there are over 300 members.

J. R. serves as the Secretary/Treasurer of the Central America & Caribbean Region and as the Northern Caribbean Area Coordinator. Upon their return, they will continue evangelizing and opening new works in the Bahamas and Bermuda.
