John Nowacki and his wife Anne, the daughter of John Balca, came to France in October 1977 under missionary appointment and settled in Melun, a city close to Paris, with their two older children. (A third child was later born on the field.) They started the first United Pentecostal Church, Centre Evangelique le Rocher, by renovating a three-story building and began to hold regular services in January 1979. Their first congregation numbered four. Today it is a growing, dynamic revival church with a congregation of close to 400. John Nowacki serves as president of the UPC of France and pastors the headquarters church. He and his wife also oversee the translation of the French literature and direct the Bible school.
