Steve and Cheri Smith were pastoring in Flora, Illinois, when they answered the call of God to serve in Guyana, South America. They arrived in Guyana on the Associates In Missions program in January 2001, were fully appointed at the General Conference in 2002 and have been faithfully serving in Guyana ever since. Bro. Smith took the oversight of the Bible school program as the president upon arrival and continues to serve in that capacity. Bro. and Sis. Smith have pastored two churches while serving in Guyana, including the headquarters church located in the capital city of Georgetown. Sis. Smith has served as the Sunday School Director for the work for many years, along with ministering in music in many different capacities. Bro. Smith also serves as the Superintendent of the UPC of Guyana. The Smiths have traveled extensively throughout the country, preaching and teaching, along with doing puppet shows and children’s ministry and helping in various other areas of ministry. In 2012 the Smiths also were asked to help oversee the work in Suriname, South America, Guyana’s neighboring country to the east. As the president of the UPC of Suriname, they also minister, preaching and teaching on a quarterly basis. Upon return to the field, the Smiths will continue to serve in the Bible school, pastor, and endeavor to see the work grow. This will include new preaching points being opened up, new churches established and ministers trained to reach the harvest fields of Guyana and Suriname.
